Title
Prohibition Candidate Campaigning, 1908
Description
Representing the Prohibition candidate, Carolyn Sewall ‘10 is campaigning for a mock presidential election by making a speech on the back of a wagon to a crowd of enthralled listeners. Drawn by two horses, the wagon carries an oversized liquor barrel covered in prohibitionist slogans such as “Kick out the keg!!!”
Image Description: Two students facing left sit astride the horses harnessed to a wooden wagon carrying a large wooden barrel. Other students sit at the carriage’s rear, one standing to speak to the students clustered around her. Unfamiliar brick buildings are visible in the background, likely academic halls that have since been torn down. From the variety in foliage and the leaves littered on the grass, the photo was likely taken in the fall.
