Title

Jeannette Marks’ dog on Suffrage Day, April 24, 1915

Description

Jeannette Marks, English professor and life partner of Mount Holyoke President Mary Woolley, was a strong supporter of the women’s rights movement. Marks and Woolley had several collies which were popular with students; one is shown here wearing a white hat and carrying baskets of daffodils around campus to be sold to raise money for the suffrage movement.

Image DescriptionA slightly blurry photograph of a Collie standing outside. A figure (presumably Jeannette Marks) stands to the right in a large dark skirt, holding its leash; the dog looks toward her. The dog wears a pointed hat upon its head, strapped under the chin, and wicker saddlebags. The baskets at its sides are filled with daffodils, overflowing along its body. Figures walk along paths in the background.
