Description
This album quilt was made for Mary Matthews before she left for Monastir in 1888. Mary's mother, Jane, probably organized this quilting project with members of her group in or near Millville, New York. The center square contains a unique Pythagorean Theorem design apparently embroidered by Mary’s aunt Emma Louisa Gillette, Mount Holyoke Class of 1851.
