Title
Josiah Allen on the Woman Question by Marietta Holley, 1914
Description
Marietta Holley (1836-1926) was an American author well-known for her humorous depiction of political and social movements, including women’s rights. She often wrote under pen names including “Josiah Allen’s Wife,” but for this particular text, she wrote in dialect from the perspective of “Josiah Allen.” Holley satirized the male anti-suffrage argument by presenting Josiah Allen’s weak arguments alongside depictions of capable and rational women.
