My dear Jeannette;---
“See giant
Rags of the first Rhode
Island” is in any lap,
and has desires in the
case of my pocket
handkerchief, which he
greatly covets! He is
the cutest dog you
ever saw. I hope that
you will see him sometime.

His eyes are like black
buttons and he is as
quick as a flash of
zigzag lightning. He had
a beautiful (!) collar,
with the inscription -
“Sergeant Rags,
1st R.I.U.S.V. Infantry,
J. J. Moslley [??]” etc.----
and a lovely chain.
You would have enjoyed
seeing him at one end
of his chain and
me at the other, coming
up from the city to-
night.

I will tell you all
about him when I see
you, which will be as
soon as the doctor
says that I may come.
He wished me to
wait until you are
somewhat stronger.
Miss Cady telephones
to him one day and
I [?] can’t, and today
she told me that you
are “doing finely.”
Mr. Young says that

you may have all the
time that you wish, in
which to make up
your work, so that is
no cause for anxiety.
My mother sends her
most cordial regards
and best wishes. She
said “love,” but I have
changed it, out of re-
spect for your feelings.
My father sends his
remembrances, too, and
I send my love, as
always, yours,
