Westport, N.Y.
September 13.
Do not understand telegram. Doctors advise no
teaching this year. Believe that was your wish too.
It evidently is Miss Helen’s. Will write her. Will
take sabbatical year now. It will be either full work
or no work. Arrange your college plans on that basis.

Wednesday afternoon [??]
May dear, I’ve decided to let you and Miss Helen decide
[?] letter and [??] I enclose considering, thems [??] where we prepared
is…..Your [??] address is [?] Col. Club [??]. It was made a
mistake you won’t be in this [??]. But I’ll keep [??] Harriet
met a [?] ran [?] to telegraph C. C. To turned mail to
[?] H. at once. It was her not made a mistake
I’ve told Miss Helen you will call her up Friday night so
that it may be decided, one way or another. What will
your [?] salary up? I don’t know. [??] Please tell Miss
Helen. I’m not very happy another way if I do as
we decided, then [?] impossibly well worth as my shoulders. [??]
Will you please telegraph me what you do decide. I don’t
feel in the least pleased to think of the demands I made
these days. I feel as if I were a failure. It seems
too much for Miss Helen or anyone else to do for us….
My advice so strongly intense [?] decide to pull
Sabbatical year - to [?] Sam Elliot, anyways
& [?] for the two courses. But if you feel [?]
Miss Helen Clarke can be reached at
11 Queensbury Street, Boston. And it would be
a good deed to her in any case….If it weren’t for
the sorrow it would bring to you and Helen, [?] and
[???], I’d put an end to it all. There
should be some [?] to get rid of people who
[3]
can’t make the rest of their opportunities. But life is
a trap….Please let me know your [?] and everything.
….I suppose [?????] of you
and Miss Helen are here is right. But it is
like pulling teeth to do it - I feel so unhappy about
the Playwriting course. I won’t keep [?] please
for it next year.
Your loving Jeannette
